The Boston Center for Independent Living (BCIL) is a mission-driven, frontline civil rights organization led by people with disabilities that advocates to eliminate discrimination, isolation, and segregation. Our goal is to enhance the independence and inclusion of people with disabilities through advocacy, information and referral, peer support, empowerment, and provision of individual services.

Position summary: This senior management position oversees BCIL’s provision of independent living services for people with disabilities, managing a department of approximately 25 people, including three other program managers. Services include, though not exclusively, information and referral, youth services, peer mentoring, nursing home transition/community living and individual advocacy. Also works closely with other departments to support an integrated service and advocacy system at BCIL. Strong priority is given to building positive team dynamics; ensuring timely, appropriate, and high-quality consumer-controlled services; developing service initiatives as feasible; and timely completion of necessary reports and administrative tasks. Reports to the deputy director, though, interacts regularly with all BCIL managers, including the executive director.
Supervisory responsibilities:
Supervises seven Disability Peer Advocates and four program supervisors (Dorchester Office Program Manager, Youth Services Program Manager, Community Living Advocacy Program Coordinator, and Assistant Director of Services).
Conducts regular supervisory meetings and provides timely personnel reviews. Participates in the hiring and orientation of new departmental staff as well as providing or arranging for ongoing in-service training. Engages in corrective or disciplinary efforts as needed, working closely with HR, deputy director and executive director.
Other responsibilities:
Ensures day-to-day direct service operations, including review of staff consumer records, updates to departmental policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with regulations and documentation requirements and other elements of quality control with designated staff.
Completes and submits required reports to funding sources.
Conduct quality control and programmatic evaluation of Adult IL and Youth departments.
Develop and maintain relationships with organizations and agencies that can assist staff and consumers.
Assist staff with provision of core IL services to consumers on an as-needed basis.
Represents BCIL at relevant meetings and events, to include the monthly State IL Directors Meetings, ADRC meetings, and meetings with other funders and collaborators.
Will work with staff to develop outreach efforts and presentations on disability and IL topics; also, will work with direct services team and senior management to assess needs and possible initiatives.
Performs other related duties as assigned by the Deputy Director or Director.

Strong writing and oral communication skills.
Bilingual or multilingual skills in language used by consumers a plus.

Equipment Operated:
Computers, copiers, scanners, printers, and other office equipment/programs. Proficiency with various mobile devices and applications.
Working Environment:
This is a five day per week in person/in office position. The office consists of private and shared offices along with cubicles. Verbal communication can be heard from other staff. May include occasional evening and weekend hours for participation in outreach events.
Hours
40 Hours – Full Time
Benefits:
2 weeks’ paid vacation (increases with length of service) with potential to add time based on relevant professional experience.

Salary: $72,000 - $82,000 depending upon experience. Language differential available for those speaking languages identified by BCIL that are used by consumers.
