Company History
Rose Kennedy had a vision that her daughter with intellectual disabilities, Rosemary, could someday live a typical family life and attend a local school. Kennedy-Donovan Center (KDC) was founded in 1969 with a three-year demonstration grant from the Joseph P. Kennedy Foundation. Luella Hennessey Donovan, the Kennedy family nurse, embarked on a new career providing community-based programs for young children with special needs, like Rosemary.
Today, KDC is a Massachusetts based 501(c)(3) human service organization serving over 10,000 individuals and families in 160 towns across southeast and central Massachusetts and northeast Connecticut. Over the last 50 years, KDC has grown tremendously, now serving over 50% of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, offering services and programs for people with developmental delays, disabilities or family challenges to help them reach their potential.
